WWF UPDATE FROM UNFCCC COP 21/CMP 11 PARIS DECEMBER 5, 2015
PARIS - Towards the second week of the UNFCCC COP 21/MOP 21 Meeting of Parties in Paris, Dr. Efransjah, CEO of WWF Indonesia gave a statement about Indonesia's position and opportunities in the meeting. This statement is a consideration for the Delegation of Indonesia (DELRI) to address the latest developments that occurred at all negotiating tables until (05/12) Paris time:
"The negotiations at COP 21 / MOP 21 will enter an important phase with the start of the Ministerial Segment on Monday (07/12 - ed). There are still debates in accommodating the principles of 'responsibility' (responsibility - ed) and 'capability' (ability - red) that can be accepted by all parties so that they reflect justice and equality in the agreement reached at the end of the meeting. Including in the discussion of climate financing (climate financing - ed)."
"Also regarding the debate on the limit of global temperature rise between 2oC and 1.5oC, DELRI needs to consider a safe limit with firm support so that the agreed limit of global temperature rise is below 2oC to avoid severe climate change impacts, especially for highly vulnerable island countries.".
Meanwhile, one of the sessions at the Indonesian Pavilion on the last day of the first week discussed the transboundary initiative between Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia and Malaysia on the island of Borneo known as The Heart of Borneo (HoB). Chairing the discussion attended by representatives of the three countries, Dr. Lukita Dinarsyah Tuwo, Secretary of the Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, said, "The Heart of Borneo is one of the efforts as a contribution of Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia and Malaysia in reducing global greenhouse gas emissions by maintaining 22 million hectares of forest cover on the island of Borneo. This effort also saves biodiversity and benefits local communities." On this occasion, the Government of Mahakam Ulu Regency - East Kalimantan presented the green economy scenario that will be implemented by the Regency, which is 90% forest. The entire area of Mahakam Ulu Regency is within the HoB landscape.
