WWF UPDATE FROM UNFCCC COP 21/CMP 11 PARIS 3 DECEMBER 2015
PARIS - At the end of the first week of negotiations at the Climate Change Summit in Paris, Tasneem Essop, Lead Delegate of WWF to the meeting provided a statement on developments so far. This statement is in response to the latest draft of the summit decisions issued this morning (03/12) Paris time:
"Finding a solution to protect the world from the ravages of climate change will still be a tough negotiation. It's still early days, but negotiators will need to work hard to turn the negotiating text into an ambitious and equitable agreement.
"Although progress is still too slow, in some respects clearer and more structured options are visible." Separately at the Press Conference at Le Bourget Media Center, Tasneem raised the important issue of 'differentiation' in all aspects of the ongoing negotiations. This is related to how to determine the perspective of the principle of 'common but differentiated responsibility with respective capability'. It is fundamental that the final agreement in Paris contains the two keywords 'responsibility' and 'capability'."
From the Indonesian Pavilion, one of the sessions that took place today discussed the role of civil society in encouraging Indonesia's commitment to national-scale landscape restoration as a contribution to the Bonn Challenge.
