The Ministry of Environment and Forestry (MoEF) terminated the technical cooperation agreement with the WWF Indonesia Foundation through Ministerial Decree Number SK.32/Menlhk/Setjen/KUM.1/1/2020 dated January 10, 2020 concerning the End of Cooperation Between the Ministry of Environment and Forestry of the Republic of Indonesia and the WWF Indonesia Foundation, which was sent through Secretary General Letter Number S.79/MENLHK-SETJEN/ROKUM/SET.1/1/2020 dated January 13, 2020. The letter and a copy of the Minister of Environment and Forestry's Decree were received by WWF-Indonesia on January 23, 2020.

Dr. Ir. Kuntoro Mangkusubroto, M.Eng., Chairman of the Board of Trustees and Spokesperson of WWF Indonesia Foundation, stated:

1. The WWF Indonesia Foundation can and will continue to operate in Indonesia to continue its work and contribution to the preservation of biological natural resources and sustainable development in Indonesia. As an independent organization with Indonesian legal entity that is part of civil society groups, WWF Indonesia Foundation has the right to carry out its activities in Indonesia based on the provisions of applicable laws and regulations.
2. WWF Indonesia Foundation regrets the unilateral decision of MoEF and the absence of direct communication and consultation to conduct deliberations to reach consensus as stated in the Cooperation Agreement between the two institutions.
3. This unilateral decision is detrimental to the reputation of WWF, which has been working for more than 50 years to support conservation and sustainable development efforts in Indonesia.
4. Based on Law Number 32/2019 on Environmental Protection and Management, WWF Indonesia Foundation as part of civil society has the same rights to work in environmental protection and management. To fight for this, we prioritize dialogue with KLHK. However, if needed, we are also considering the option of legal action.
