#BELIYANGBAIK FOR SUSTAINABLE FOOD SECURITY
By: Natalia Trita Agnika
One of the basic human needs and rights that must be fulfilled is food. Not only important for personal survival, food fulfillment is also important for a country. Various social and political upheavals can occur if food security is disrupted. Food security is reflected in the availability of sufficient food, both in quantity and quality, which is safe, diverse, nutritious, equitable and affordable. Food includes agricultural, livestock, and fishery commodities derived from biological resources, both processed and unprocessed.
The increasing human population in the world has resulted in higher demands for food availability. To meet the increasing demand for food, various efforts are made. Quite often, efforts to fulfill these food needs are carried out in ways that are not environmentally friendly. In fact, agricultural practices and exploitation of marine products in an environmentally unfriendly manner will have a negative impact on food sustainability.
One of the solutions that must be done to meet the availability of food along with the increasing human population is to produce food produced in an environmentally friendly way. As consumers, we can be involved in making this happen by becoming wise consumers, according to the #BeliangBaik movement. This movement, initiated by WWF-Indonesia, is carried out through three simple steps, namely finding out the background of the products to be consumed, asking producers to present environmentally friendly products, and inviting others to also apply green lifestyles in their daily lives.
For the sustainability of food security, consuming sustainable and responsible agricultural and fishery products is a concrete step that we must take. Choose local food products that have a low carbon footprint and provide a source of livelihood for the local people who cultivate them. Consume products from the sea in accordance with the Seafood Guide. By being a wise consumer in choosing food products, we are not only supporting food availability, but also promoting food sustainability for the future.
In connection with the importance of food for human life, this Friday (16/10), the world commemorates World Food Day (World Food Day). The momentum of World Food Day reminds us to reflect on our food-related lifestyle. Is the food available on our tables the result of environmentally friendly agriculture and fisheries?
In addition to #BeliYangBaik, there are many examples of green lifestyles that we can apply in our daily lives as our real action to save the earth. Other examples of green lifestyle can be learned easily and fun through the "Green Lifestyle WWF" sticker series. Upload them immediately on Blackberry Messenger Shop.
