TNBKDS - WWF STRENGTHEN CONSERVATION ACHIEVEMENTS
JAKARTA - The Betung Kerihun and Danau Sentarum National Park (TNBKDS) and WWF-Indonesia West Kalimantan Program signed a cooperation agreement on Thursday (13/7/2017) in Jakarta.
The signing of the agreement, which contains the Program Implementation Plan (RPP) and Annual Work Plan (RKT), was carried out within the framework of strengthening the functions of management institutions and communities, protecting the area, preserving flora and fauna (key species), developing nature tourism, and empowering communities in and around the TNBKDS area.
"This operational cooperation agreement intends to strengthen the function of TNBKDS with its strategic partners. It is also to support and encourage the effectiveness of national park management," said TNBKDS Head Arief Mahmud in Jakarta, Thursday (13/7/2017).
Balai Besar TNBKDS is a management unit for the implementation of conservation of natural resources and ecosystems that is under and responsible to the Director General of Natural Resources and Ecosystem Conservation.
BBTNBKDS has the task of organizing the conservation of natural resources and ecosystems based on laws and regulations in the Betung Kerihun National Park and Danau Sentarum National Park areas, Kapuas Hulu Regency, West Kalimantan Province.
In carrying out its duties and functions BBTNBKDS can establish cooperation with various parties, in this case WWF-Indonesia West Kalimantan Program as an organization that has long contributed to conservation work in West Kalimantan.
WWF-Indonesia West Kalimantan Program Manager Albertus Tiju said this cooperation will further strengthen the efforts to conserve the biodiversity of West Kalimantan that have been carried out by WWF so far.
"This cooperation is part of WWF's collaborative work with the parties, especially those related to the environment and conservation. So far, WWF has a good partnership relationship with the Balai Besar TNBKDS, especially in efforts to conserve biodiversity in Kapuas Hulu. I am optimistic that this cooperation will be able to improve the achievements of conservation work even better," Albert said.
The cooperation aims to strengthen support for programs and activities in the management of TNBK and TNDS. In this case, there are efforts to manage and protect forests that are effective, sustainable, and involve all interested parties.
In addition, this effort is also to strengthen the management of biodiversity and ecosystems more effectively, both conservation awareness campaigns at the local and regional levels, ecotourism management and environmental services with the active involvement of relevant stakeholders, and community empowerment and internal human resources of BBTNBKDS.
