LEARNING ABOUT EDUCATION FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT IN THE CHILL OF SARONGGE
Nine cities, various communities met in one place with the same vision. Saung Sarongge, Cianjur Regency, February 7-11, 2020 was the place and time used to share experiences and stories and learn together in the Training of Trainers activity organized by WWF-Indonesia. It was attended by every Earth Hour representative of each city, especially those included in Region II including Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, Bekasi, Serang, Bandung, and Cianjur. In addition, representatives from Panda Mobile, Marine Buddies, Islamic boarding schools, Scouts, and the general public also participated. The various activities organized were a rewarding experience and a lot of fun as well.
We learned about Education for Sustainable Development and Sustainable Development Goals (SDG's) from Mrs. Rini Andriani. Many people still don't understand the concept of sustainability and SDG's, but after learning and being explained again here, we understand better that Indonesia has 13 goals to achieve sustainable development or development for various sectors ranging from economic, social, and environmental.
The background of these goals is to end poverty, reduce inequality and protect the environment. The SDG's are used as a guideline in carrying out various activities that include sustainable development. In today's reality, the whole society is happy to be an excessive consumer without recognizing the limits of existing natural resources, and not utilizing natural resources sufficiently and properly. Therefore, it is important for us to be provided with this material, because we are made up of various communities with the same goal of inviting people around the world to continue to be part of the global momentum to help fight climate change which has impacts in various sectors.
One of the themes we covered throughout the event was biodiversity. Many people think that biodiversity means forests, but forests are just one part of biodiversity, and there are many other examples such as flora and fauna in the sea, rice fields, and even in the home and school yards.
In addition to the material to be delivered, we were also given material to become facilitators to provide education to elementary school students so that the discussion or material to be delivered can be accepted and understood, moreover it can be practiced in everyday life and become a trigger for initiating movements in the environment around them. Therefore, we were provided with material by facilitators from Inspirit who are very experienced. We were given material to recognize ourselves starting from everything that can build our dreams, our strengths, to how to do everything to realize our dreams. These things were shared with our small group, and the sharing of experiences and stories was useful for building chemistry in our group and practicing to become facilitators for younger siblings in elementary school.
We also learned about public speaking which is very useful to train our confidence in public speaking. It turns out that speaking also has various aspects that need to be considered, including space, voice, taste and even how to convey something so that it can be understood by the audience. The activities and materials provided really helped us to get to know the training participants, and of course all the activities provided were packaged in a fun way so that we who participated in the activities also felt a pleasant atmosphere as well.
