InterContinental Bali Resort made a big commitment to trace the origin of the seafood products served by signing the Pledge for Seafood Traceability. This commitment is one of the hotel's safeguards for consumers to get seafood from a clear source. InterContinental Bali Resort is a five-star hotel with numerous awards, some of which include The Most Luxurious Resort In Service Excellent Of The Year by Platinum Indonesia and Certificate Of Excellence 2015 from Trip Advisor. These awards show that InterContinental Bali Resort pays close attention to the quality of its service to customers.
The hotel is located in Jimbaran, Bali which is one of the main destinations for seafood-loving tourists, both foreign and local, so it has great potential for the development of sustainable seafood. It is hoped that InterContinental Bali Resort can be a trigger for other hotels and resorts in Bali to care about the origin of their seafood. Knowledge of the origin of seafood is very important in determining fisheries management to realize sustainable fisheries practices.
With InterContinental Bali Resort on board, five hotels and one retailer have committed to finding out the origin of the seafood they serve to their customers. These good intentions are just the first steps on a long road to supporting sustainable and responsible fishing practices in Indonesia. The easiest step starts with knowing how the seafood they sell came to be and how it was caught and farmed.
Since its inception last June, WWF-Indonesia with its Pledge for Responsible Seafood has successfully engaged several hotels and retailers to find out the origin of the seafood they sell. Fish 'n Blues, a brand of PT Samudera Eco Anugrah (SEA) Indonesia, as well as star hotels in Jakarta such as Shangri-La, The Sultan, DoubleTree by Hilton and Morrissey have participated. At the end of August, following the InterContinental Bali Resort's commitment to sourcing and supply chain information on its seafood products.
Sustainable fisheries practices are carried out not only to protect the marine ecosystem, but also the fish resources that support the seafood business. Of course, it is hoped that hotels and retailers who have signed this pledge can continue to support environmentally friendly and responsible fisheries practices by joining Seafood Savers.
