SUBAYANG-BIO FESTIVAL AND INITIATION TO CLEAN SUBAYANG IN RIMBANG BALING
The Subayang - Bio Festival was held last weekend (March 30-31) in Gema Village, Kampar Kiri Hulu, Kampar, Riau. The Subayang River, which cuts through the Bukit Rimbang Baling forest area, became the center of a series of events held by the committee with the support of the Kampar Government, Riau Provincial Tourism Office, Genpi Kampar and WWF Riau Program. On the second day, WWF Warrior, Wulan Guritno participated in the Subayang River walk with a procession of traditional musicians from various villages in Rantau Kampar Kiri.
By boat, Wulan Guritno, who was also accompanied by the story writer and young director, Robby Ertanto Soediskam, followed the river while enjoying the gondang oguang music. Despite the hot sun, both of them enjoyed the natural beauty of the hills and the curves of the Subayang River. The group stopped at Muara Sidu, one of the plains with rocks in the middle of the Subayang River. The traditional musicians performed their skills in front of the festival-goers and guests.
The group then headed back to the center of the event and stopped by the Subayang Field Station. At this location there is also a freshwater laboratory building, both facilities were built by WWF to become a center for education and community activities. The activity that was planned to continue to Batu Dinding waterfall given the time was finally canceled.
When asked, Wulan Guritno was ready and would love to go to the waterfall location because they came to explore the Rimbang Baling area and all the stories of the people's lives. Instead of going to the waterfall, Wulan and Robby used the time to look for ideas for the story of the movie they were going to make about nature, which they hoped would inspire all parties to take action to save nature and its biodiversity.
Meanwhile, at the festival venue, a waste management socialization was held by the Environmental Agency and the Gema Village government. The speakers presented were able to open the eyes of the community that waste is gold. This activity is the beginning of the initiation of the "Subayang Bersih" movement."
Gema as the capital of the Kampar Kiri Hulu sub-district and the main access to villages located upstream of the Subayang River is representative of Rimbang Baling. The problem of unmanageable waste has been a concern for many parties, especially since Rimbang Baling is now starting to stretch with tourist visits.
Yul Achyar, Head of Tourism Resource Development of Riau Province stated." There are already many tourists coming to Subayang, the community must be ready, cleanliness must be maintained and hospitality."
In the afternoon, a series of festivals was the launching of Subayang Bersih as a joint movement effort with the Subayang community to protect the river from garbage. WWF Warrior, Wulan Guritno and accompanied by senior director, Lukman Sardi who came later with other WWF entourage, were asked to participate in the activity. The host of the event, Dody Rasyid Amin, asked the two public figures to share their impressions of Rimbang Baling and the Subayang Bersih movement.
"I am happy to be able to enjoy Rimbang Baling, seeing the green hills, this is impossible to find in Jakarta. Plus the local wisdom, we must be proud, this is Indonesia, said Lukman with a loud voice in front of hundreds of people present.
"We have to keep the river clean, we have to keep the tradition," Lukman added. No less enthusiastic, with a different style, Wulan Guritno gave her appeal starting by asking one of the visitors. "Where do you throw your garbage? Yes, trash is disposed of in its place. We have to protect nature together because we don't want to not see this beautiful nature later. We have children, our children have children, and so on, they also have the right to see beautiful nature," said Wulan.
The launch of Subayang Bersih was marked by picking up trash around the location. This will continue as Gema Village now has a Waste Bank team that has just been inaugurated.
When asked about plans to make a movie, both Wulan and Lukman said that this is just the initial stage of finding a story, we don't know what it will be like. But both are asking for community support. The process of extracting the story for a movie that has a strong message for the environment is still being explored by Wulan, Lukman and Robi. We'll see, it could be about elephants or something else.
