WWF-Indonesia encourages sustainable forest management and supports community forestry, non-timber forest products, organic cocoa, and ecotourism initiatives with community based in Sarmi. This area is very important becaues it consists of 4 main ecosystem types, lowland rain forest, mountain forest, secondary forest, and grasslands.
Attention to the Tambrauw area is really necessary because 60% of this area is mountains with the tilt 40-60%, if the vegetation loses it will cause landslide. Another supporting factor is that Tambrauw is at high risk of earthquakes, tsunamis, landslides, floods, and forest fires.
The South Papua Provincial Government and WWF-Indonesia signed a joint agreement to enhance collaborative cooperation in environmental protection, conservation, and the achievement of sustainable development goals.
