TRAVELING NEEDS TO BE WISE AND ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY
WWF-Indonesia presents the Responsible Tourism Guide for Observing and Interacting with Marine Animals Series as a wise guide for all tourism actors. The launch of this guide is also to commemorate the National Wildlife Day (HCPSN) which is celebrated every November 5, as well as part of the #BeliYangBaik Campaign.
This guide presents environmental best practices in marine activities that involve observing and interacting with marine animals in natural habitats. The utilization of marine resources including animals for tourism, if not done wisely, can result in the decline of animal populations and damage to ecosystems.
Grounded in the concept of conservation, the guidelines developed to support the achievement of responsible marine tourism summarize recommended practices that were also selected through a systematic process, ranging from literature review; field data collection; and discussions with groups of marine tourism practitioners, academics, and government.
With the opportunities that nature presents for the advancement of marine tourism, it is important to ensure responsible interactions with marine animals so that their wise utilization will be long-term, increase attractiveness for tourists, and be of higher value and avoid the decline of marine animal populations as Indonesia's flagship marine tourism object.
