Sintang - The Sintang Regency Government in collaboration with WWF-Indonesia is committed to encouraging the direction and policy of sustainable development. It was marked by the plan to sign a cooperation agreement (Second Addendum) between the local government and WWF-Indonesia Foundation.
Previously, the local government held the second phase of public consultation on the Serawai-Ambalau District Strategic Area for Environment and Forestry (KSK-LHK) on Thursday (12/4). This is in line with the stipulation of Regional Regulation Number 20 of 2015 concerning the Regional Spatial Plan (RTRW) of Sintang Regency.
Sintang Regent Jarot Winarno emphasized that the government will not recede in pursuing sustainable development directions and policies. "We remain committed and will continue to oversee and implement policies in accordance with the mandate of Perda No. 20 of 2015," he said in Sintang, Thursday (9/20/2018).
According to Jarot, as proof of the government's seriousness, currently theoretical and practical empirical studies have been carried out related to the Serawai-Ambalau KSK LHK. The preparation of this academic paper has been pursued as optimally as possible, although it is still far from perfect. However, it can be used as a basis and reference for the preparation of regional regulations.
Muller Schwaner Arabela Landscape Leader WWF-Indonesia, Ian Hilman appreciated the commitment of the Sintang District Government to the direction and policies of sustainable development.
"This is a very important thing to follow up. Regional policies that support sustainability, taking into account the interests of the environment and forestry," he said.
According to Ian, the preparation of the Serawai-Ambalau KSK LHK Spatial Plan is in line with the mandate of Government Regulation No. 26 of 2008 concerning RTRWN, especially with regard to the designation of the HoB area as a National Strategic Area (KSN), of which the Serawai-Ambalau KSK LHK is an integral part.
In addition, added the Director of Kalimantan WWF-Indonesia, Irwan Gunawan, this is a real step for efforts to prevent wider environmental damage.
"Environmental damage in this region will contribute to global warming. Hopefully, through an academic paper with careful formulation and accommodating all empirical conditions in the field, this will be a starting point for the creation of a Heart of Borneo area that can fulfill its purpose and function," said Irwan.
