PANDA MOBILE AND ARKI COMMIT TO PROTECTING THE ENVIRONMENT
By: Muhamad Azhari Lubis (Panda Mobile Volunteer) & Natalia Trita Agnika
On Thursday (10/12), Panda Mobile received an invitation from ARKI (Akademi Remaja Kreatif Indonesia). Located at Twin Plaza Hotel, Jakarta, a discussion and various activities with creative teenagers from junior and senior high schools throughout Indonesia were held. The discussion was themed on the environment and endangered animals.
After introducing the Panda Mobile team, the volunteers introduced WWF-Indonesia and explained WWF-Indonesia's conservation programs for endangered animals and the environment. Then the event continued with a movie review by the Panda Mobile team. Indonesian creative teens were treated to the movies "Save the Paper", "Save Water", and "We Are Connected". The participants were then invited to discuss and explain what the movie was about. Panda Mobile volunteers explained the message of the movie and how it relates to the environmental impact on the earth. The question and answer session about the movie was exciting. One participant asked about WWF-Indonesia's conservation program in Ujung Kulon. The Panda Mobile team also explained about the conservation programs that have been and are being carried out by WWF-Indonesia in Ujung Kulon.
The activity got warmer with the game "spaceship". The participants were divided into several groups. They were asked to imagine the conditions when the earth will be damaged and all human beings can no longer live on earth and must survive in a spaceship (spaceship). Their next task was to draw the spaceship and all the things they thought needed to be in the spaceship for humans to survive until they found another planet to live on. After finishing the drawing, each group of creative teenagers presented and explained their work. Other groups are welcome to ask questions or respond to the group that is explaining their work.
On this occasion, the volunteers also taught the participants to transform unused objects into more useful objects. Through the 3Rs (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) activity, they turned an old t-shirt into a multi-purpose bag. The activity also encouraged the participants to shop using their own grocery bags that they had made. This will reduce the amount of plastic bags used and ultimately reduce the amount of plastic waste.
This Panda Mobile activity with ARKI invites creative teenagers throughout Indonesia to commit to protecting the environment and the earth starting from very small things to big things. Hamzah Reevi, coordinator of this activity gave a positive response to the various activities delivered by the Panda Mobile team. "This activity is amazing. Hopefully Panda Mobile can work together to conduct roadshows and environmental campaigns with KKPK Mizan throughout Indonesia," he hoped.
