NOT JUST A HIKE, BUT A JOINT ACTION TO GREEN THE EARTH, FOR YOU AND OUR FUTURE.
Merbabu, May 28, 2025. WWF-Indonesia together with seven public figures, namely Della Dartyan, Yura Yunita, Tara Budiman, Dion Wiyoko, Tissa Biyani, Daffa Wardhana, Jerhemy Owen, and Mariane Rumantir, climbed Mount Merbabu through Selo, Boyolali, Central Java. This hike is an effort to invite joint action to green the earth, for you and our future together. This hike is in order to invite the audience to become responsible adventurers, not only enjoying nature but must giving back in the form of planting trees and not polluting the beauty of nature with plastic waste. This hike was also attended by 10 members of Nature (MoNa) from Jakarta. This activity is in collaboration with National Geographic Indonesia and TSX Media.
This activity was also welcomed by the Minister of Forestry, Raja Juli Antoni, by releasing the group at Post 1, Selo Trail, Selo Resort, Merbabu National Park, Boyolali, Central Java. In his speech, the Minister of Forestry welcomed this activity, and als,o at the same time, tested RFID or Radio Frequency Identification technology. A method of identifying and tracking objects automatically, or transponders in the form of orange bracelets. The goal is to easily track incoming climbers and facilitate the evacuation process if a climber gets lost. The Minister also reminded climbers to bring back their trash, which will be counted at the exit post. "If you bring 20 cigarettes, you must submit evidence in the form of 20 butts at the exit post later," said Mr. Raja.
In this activity, climbers must plant at least one tree before or after the climb. In this activity, there is also a joint tree planting event using hardwood and fruit plants, such as sengon wood and others.
Aditya Bayunanda, CEO of WWF-Indonesia said, "On average, 73% of Indonesians get their news from social media, therefore it is important to collaborate with influencers to voice conservation issues that are sure to spread and inspire their followers". Aditya continued, "WWF-Indonesia will continue to invite everyone including influencers who want to work with us to continue to speak out and make a positive impact on Indonesia's nature as well as being a responsible traveler, being an adventurer but still Zero Waste,".
During the hike, Members of Nature will collect plastic waste scattered along the trail, in order to protect the habitat of endemic wildlife in Merbabu National Park and also realize Zero Waste and Zero Accident. The amount of plastic waste from the tourism sector is quite significant. Several studies show that plastic waste is the main component of waste generated by tourism activities, with a percentage reaching 53% or 250 million tons.
Della Dartyan, Public Figure and MoNa Member said, "As the initiator of the MoNa Kelana idea, I am very proud and grateful to my fellow public figures who have been willing to "poison" me to join this action". The Jogjakarta-born girl is passionate about the environment, "Even the smallest action has a good impact on the earth, so #longaruhkok is our tagline".
MoNa Kelana is a WWF-Indonesia program for individual supporter activities. This activity is also supported by Arei outdoor equipment, Golden Rama and others. Later, there will be MoNa Kelana not only in the mountains but also in marine and urban editions.
