Conservation messages can be conveyed in many ways. One of them is through storytelling. For this reason, Bumi Panda enthusiastically responded to an invitation from SD Gagas Ceria Bandung to participate in the Storytelling Festival held on November 8, 2015. The storytelling festival is an activity to share various information through the medium of storytelling.
On this occasion, Bumi Panda collaborated with the Panda Mobile educational truck that was in Bandung. Presenting Kak Ami, a storyteller from Bumi Panda, the students received important information about the environment. During the storytelling session, Kak Ami talked about the abundance of plastic waste. This condition affects the declining population of sea turtles in the sea. In the story, the main character is named Dodo who often throws plastic waste carelessly. The students who listened to the story seemed very enthusiastic. Occasional laughter was heard during the fairy tale.
After listening to the story, the students did some interesting activities in the Panda Mobile truck, such as quartet card games, marine animal theme puzzles, and watching movies. The shape of WWF-Indonesia's six-wheeled truck attracted their attention because it was decorated with images of key animals that are the focus of WWF-Indonesia's conservation work. During the puzzle activity, one of the students named Rachel asked, "Sis, what is the function of coral reefs?" Patiently, Kak Denan, one of Bumi Panda's volunteers, explained that coral reefs have a function as a home for fish in the sea.
Another method used to share information about the environment is by watching movies. On that occasion the movie played was about environmental damage. "Brothers and sisters, if we do not protect the environment from now on, the earth will be increasingly damaged. We can protect it by not littering, saving paper and tissue, saving electricity and reducing the use of plastic bags," said Kak Dwi, a volunteer at Bumi Panda.
The school really appreciates the activities carried out by Bumi Panda. As an environmental information house in Bandung, Bumi Panda has done its role well. "Thank you for the collaboration. Hopefully the activities and information delivered by the Bumi Panda WWF-Indonesia team can increase the awareness of the students of SD Gagas Ceria," said Claudine, Vice Principal of Student Affairs at SD Gagas Ceria, Bandung.
