BMP EEL FISHERY: A GUIDE TO CATCHING AND HANDLING
Praise be to God Almighty for the completion of the Better Management Practices (BMP), Fisheries Guide Series, Eel Fry Catching and Post-Catch Handling. These BMPs are practical guidelines that can be applied by fishermen to implement sustainable eel fishing practices. The preparation of this BMP has gone through several processes, namely field data collection, desk study, internal review of WWF Indonesia Fisheries team, and Focus Group Discussion with several experts and practitioners of eel fishing as external expert reviewers.
This BMP is a practical guide that can be specifically applied to the capture and handling of eel fry on a small scale. Some of the materials for the preparation of BMPs come from the capture location of glass eel to fingerling phase, especially in Sukabumi District, West Java. This BMP is a living document that will continue to be delivered in accordance with developments in the field and input from relevant parties. This BMP is also a form of support for the management of eel fisheries that have been carried out by the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries so far.
Our sincere gratitude goes to all parties who have provided assistance in the preparation of this BMP both providing data, providing important information, and providing corrections, namely the Directorate of Fish Resources Management, Directorate of Conservation and Marine Biodiversity, Fisheries Research Center, Fishing Center, and Fish Resources Recovery Research Center of the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, Sukabumi Marine and Fisheries Service, Oceanographic Research Center of the Indonesian Institute of Sciences, Department of Fisheries Resources Utilization of IPB, SEAFDEC-Indonesia, and Sukabumi Eel Fish Fishermen.
We are always open to all parties for any constructive input for the improvement of this BMP, and we apologize if there are errors and shortcomings in the preparation process and content of this BMP.
