Climate & Market Communications Specialist
I. PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
The Communication Specialist – Climate & Market Transformation (CMT) is responsible for implementing communication strategies and public campaigns that support conservation, climate change, waste management, and sustainable production and consumption transformation initiatives in accordance with WWF-Indonesia’s policies and procedures.
This position ensures that messages, campaigns, and communication materials developed under the Climate & Market Transformation program are delivered effectively and consistently to the public and various stakeholders. Communication support includes policy advocacy at the national level, private sector engagement, and raising public awareness of sustainability-related issues.
Through various communication channels and campaigns, this position contributes to driving changes in production and consumption practices toward more responsible and sustainable systems.
II. ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES
A. Strategy & Planning
- Implement communication and campaign strategies to support programs under the Climate & Market Transformation Directorate under the guidance of the Public Relations and Strategic Communication team and in coordination with relevant program teams.
- Develop various communication and campaign materials, including articles, reports, policy briefs, presentations, press releases, social media content, and other publications to support effective program messaging for diverse audiences.
- Enhance the visibility, image, and reputation of WWF-Indonesia on sustainability issues, including sustainable commodities, climate & energy, sustainable finance, and waste & plastic management.
- Identify and analyze target audiences, stakeholders, and communication opportunities to ensure messages and campaigns are delivered effectively and achieve optimal impact.
B. Implementation
- Develop and implement communication strategies to support Climate & Market Transformation (CMT) programs, campaigns, and initiatives, including issues related to sustainable commodities, climate & energy, sustainable finance, and waste & plastic management.
- Generate effective media exposure and publications through social media, the WWF-Indonesia website, digital platforms, and other communication channels to increase the visibility of CMT programs, campaigns, and advocacy initiatives.
- Draft, edit, and manage a variety of communication materials, including articles, press releases, publications, social media content, infographics, videos, talking points, presentations, and campaign materials in accordance with WWF branding and communication guidelines.
- Translate technical issues related to climate change, sustainable commodities, sustainable finance, and waste & plastic management into communication products that are easily understood by diverse audiences.
- Collaborate effectively with program teams, donors, partners, creative vendors, media representatives, and the global WWF network to ensure message consistency, content quality, and timely publication.
- Support the organization of communication and outreach activities, including webinars, trainings, workshops, conferences, multi-stakeholder dialogues, and publication launches through the development of event materials, speaker coordination, documentation, and post-event communications.
- Develop communication messages that demonstrate the impact of CMT programs at landscape, national, and global levels, where relevant.
- Support social media content planning and scheduling related to CMT activities and campaigns, ensuring accuracy, relevance, and compliance with WWF-Indonesia’s editorial standards.
- Facilitate communication and information exchange between WWF-Indonesia and the WWF global network on issues related to sustainable commodities, climate & energy, sustainable finance, and waste & plastic management.
C. Information Security Management System
- Store important hardcopy documents in secure locations that are not easily visible, accessible, damaged, or affected by environmental factors.
- Store important softcopy documents using secure media recommended by the IT department. This includes granting access only to authorized personnel and applying passwords to critical and confidential files.
- Ensure proper handling of confidential and critical files during both offline and online transfers, including the use of secure media, password protection, and appropriate storage locations.
- Regularly update email passwords to enhance email and data security.
- Use office servers or restricted personal servers when accessing the internet. Avoid using public Wi-Fi when accessing critical or confidential files. This also applies to staff whose work devices store critical or confidential information.
III. REQUIREMENTS
A. Knowledge & Experience
- Bachelor's Degree (S1) in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Media, Marketing Communications, or other relevant fields.
- Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in communications, campaigns, media relations, digital communications, or public engagement. Experience in environmental, sustainability, climate change, conservation, or sustainable development issues is highly desirable.
- Experience working with non-governmental organizations (NGOs), development agencies, international organizations, or multi-stakeholder institutions. Experience within global organizations or international networks is an advantage.
- Strong understanding of WWF-Indonesia’s vision, mission, strategies, and approaches, as well as the WWF global network, particularly in conservation, climate, and sustainability issues.
B. Technical / Specific Knowledge
- Proven experience in developing and managing a wide range of communication products, including publications, social media content, digital campaigns, press releases, articles, storytelling, and event communications.
- Strong strategic thinking, creativity, and proactive problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate complex technical issues into messages that are easily understood by diverse audiences.
- Ability to translate technical issues related to the Climate & Market Transformation Directorate (CMT) into clear, engaging, and accessible messages for the public.
- Knowledge of promotion, marketing, community engagement, social networking, and branding guidelines.
