THE THRILL OF WATCHING AN ENVIRONMENTAL MOVIE ON A PANDA MOBILE TRUCK
By: Karuna Devi (Panda Mobile Volunteer)
The arrival of WWF-Indonesia's Panda Mobile education truck to schools is always warmly welcomed. Such was the case last Saturday (06/10) at Mumtaza Islamic School, Ciputat, South Tangerang. The Panda Mobile team started the environmental education activity by introducing WWF-Indonesia to the students and teachers. Next, they were immersed in coloring activities. The students seemed eager to mix and match their favorite colors to decorate the image of a Sumatran Elephant on the paper that had been provided.
After coloring, they listened to storytelling about protected animals.
One of the things the students look forward to the most when they get a visit from Panda Mobile is the opportunity to climb aboard the Panda Mobile truck. The rear cabin of the six-wheel truck that WWF-Indonesia uses to conduct conservation activities in public areas can be opened to become a multi-functional stage.
Although the sun was shining brightly that afternoon, the children were very happy to get on the truck in turn per class. There they watched a movie about the environment. Through a 42-inch television screen, the students watched a movie about tiger poachers. They easily understood the message of the movie. Questions posed by the volunteers could also be answered by the students. Watching a movie together on the Panda Mobile truck is one way to deliver effective environmental education.
