SEBANGAU NEWSLETTER #6 APRIL-JUNE 2010
The sixth Sebangau Newsletter features the preparation phase to make Tumbang Ronen village as fishery conservation area. The Fishery Office of Katingan District, WWF-Indonesia, Sebangau National Park Office, Kamipang head sub-district, Tumbang Runen Village official and Gapoktanal (the group of farmers and fisheries of Tumbang Runen village union) conducted a meeting with a local community. It produced an agreement among the locals to decide Hai Lake as the Community's Fishery Conservation Area.
Other sections highlight various activities conducted to develop ecotourism potential in several area around Sebangau NP. For instance identifying location and biodiversity based jungle track ecotourism in the visitor center of Punggualas Lake. The activity was held to determine location and transect interpretation lane management, biodiversity potential based jungle track ecotourism, identification of dominant species in the biodiversity area lane, presenting biodiveristy information in nomenclature and as initial assets in developing ecotourism on Punggualas area.
Moreover in the middle of 2010, the people of Jahanjang village in a collaboration with Tourism, Sports and Art office of Katingan district composed regulation and packages on community based tourism in the guest house of Bulat ake, Jahanjang village, Katingan. The results are procedures on the expectations, rules, and ecotourism package based on the agreement of Jahanjang community.
