SCIENTIFIC MOVIES ATTRACT CHILDREN NATIONWIDE
The movie presentation as a series of Science Film Festival 2012 (SFF 2012) in six cities: Pontianak, Manado, Tomohon, Sorong, Manokwari and Jayapura was conducted by WWF-Indonesia as one of Goethe Insititute partners in the film festival this time. For WWF-Indonesia, this is the second participation in the festival after its participation in 2011 as a partner in the same festival attended by more than 27 thousand elementary, junior high, and high school students. WWF-Indonesia managed to send a movie entitled ""A Song for Tukik"" that tells about turtle conservation in Wakatobi National Park in this year’s festival, which has the theme of water.
Water theme was chosen as SFF 2012 theme because of the importance of water conservation for human life. SFF 2012 movies present a lot of information about hydrologic cycle (water cycle), deflection of light by the properties of water, water compounds in our hand hygiene, underwater world and marine ecosystem, water function as a source of power and potential energy, as well as issues of world fisheries. Beside audio-visual material presentation, the audience is also invited to a series of simple experiments every time each title of the movie is playing.
The execution of SFF 2012 by WWF as a co-location managed to raise 1900 students in Jayapura, who in average attend elementary school, junior high school, high school and college. Pontianak is also not left behind as 600 spectators were joined in, whereas in Manokwari, Sorong, Manado and Tomohon were attended by 500, 430, 300, and 300 spectators respectively.
SFF 2012 is held in cooperation with important partners such as AJI (Aliansi Jurnalis Independen or Alliance of Independent Journalists) in Pontianak, SMU (high school) Negeri 7 in Manado and St. Nicolaus Lokon High School in Tomohon, YPPK Agustinus School in Sorong, Universitas (University) Negeri Papua, as well as Coastal and Marine Community in Manokwari. In addition to the movie ""A Song for Tukik"", another WWF movie entitled ""Silent Ocean"" was also appointed as the elected movie for the special show in Philippines. In Indonesia, SFF 2012 was held in 17 cities, with a series of 13 foreign movies that had been converted into Indonesian to make them more easily understood by the audience.
