PANDA MOBILE, AN ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION FACILITY READY TO GREET THE PUBLIC
By: Ciptanti Putri
The learning process will be easier to achieve its goals if it is done with the right method, complete, and fun. That is the mission carried out by Panda Mobile, WWF-Indonesia's mobile facility in disseminating environmental knowledge to the public. Panda Mobile is a six-wheeled truck that is active in public areas, such as formal and informal schools (ranging from kindergarten to high school level), campuses or universities, companies / agencies / organizations, shopping centers, communities and community activity centers, and others.
Panda Mobile spreads the message of conservation to the public through a menu of regular programs that can be tailored to the theme. The programs begin with an introduction to WWF-Indonesia as the oldest conservation organization in Indonesia, storytelling sessions, environmental-themed short films and animations, traditional games (engklek, snakes and ladders), recycling creations from used items/food or beverage packaging (3R, reduce-reuse-recycle), and simple research sessions. In implementing the routine program, Panda Mobile is assisted by volunteers consisting of young people who have previously been equipped with adequate techniques and knowledge.
All sessions were effective thanks to the facilities available at Panda Mobile. These facilities include a mini library with a collection of 100 books, various stuffed animals and educational games for children, a 42-inch plasma TV and a 2 x 2 m screen (viewing capacity for adults + 10 people and children + 20 people), a laptop with interactive environmental information, a number of props for simple environmental observation activities, coloring tools and 3R activities. In addition, the rear cabin of the six-wheeled truck can be opened into a stage. Activities that are generally carried out on this stage are storytelling, coloring, photo exhibitions, as well as reading rooms and playing dolls (adjusted to the theme of the activity and target visitors).
After the program is run, Panda Mobile usually also involves the community in efforts to protect Indonesia's nature by donating directly through various fundraising programs. These programs are all devoted to the preservation of Indonesia's nature.
"During 2015, WWF-Indonesia targets the Panda Mobile to visit 150 points," said Primayunta, Supporter Engagement Officer WWF-Indonesia. Not limited to schools or shopping centers, Prima also opens up opportunities to work with Event Organizer which organizes environmental-themed activities or involving families as target audience, with a minimum number of 100 people. Panda Mobile's reach has expanded from only Jabodetabek and Java, to Sumatra and Bali. "The important thing is that the organizer must prepare a strategic and crowded outdoor area of at least 7 x 8 m, electricity with a capacity of 1,000 watts, consumption for the team, as well as security for overnight parking if needed."
