MENAMI SHIP'S NEW ASSIGNMENT, SAILING WITH BRSDM KP
Banyuwangi, October 9, 2022 - The Floating Rangers Station Motorboat or KM. FRS Menami is a pinisi ship which is a research and education vessel of WWF Indonesia Foundation was officially donated and handed over to the Marine and Fisheries Research and Human Resources Agency (BRSDM KP), Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries. Menami will continue its work with the Banyuwangi Fisheries Training and Counseling Center under BRSDM KP.
"Since 2004, Menami has sailed the waters of Southeast Sulawesi, East Nusa Tenggara, to the waters of the Sunda - Banda seascape as a marine conservation research and education vessel for the WWF Indonesia Foundation team and partners, it is time for KM. Menami continues its bigger task. We are very proud to be able to support the Indonesian Government Program to increase the quantity and quality of education, research, training and counseling in the field of management and sustainable use of marine and fisheries resources, especially in the Sunda Banda seascape and also accelerate the achievement and targets of Indonesia's SDGs," said Aditya Bayunanda as Acting Chief Executive Officer of WWF Indonesia Foundation.
This grant also aims to make Menami a means of supporting capacity building, development and implementation of activities, as well as the implementation of community service related to marine resources, fisheries, and conservation that will be carried out by BRSDM KP. The handover was carried out by Lukas Adhyakso, Chief Operation Officer of WWF Indonesia Foundation, to Dr. I Nyoman Radiarta, S.Pi, M.Sc as Head of BRSDM KP.

We believe this ship can be useful for various interests and needs in the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, especially for us at BRSDM KP which has a main focus on developing and increasing the capacity of human resources," said Dr. I Nyoman Radiarta, Head of BRSDM KP.
Menami is the local name of the Wakatobi people for one of the coral fish with high economic value, namely napoleon fish or napoleon wrasse (Cheilinus undulatus). This name was given because KM. FRS Menami began its duties as a research and education vessel for marine and fisheries resource conservation operating in Wakatobi waters. This ship is often used for data collection activities, monitoring the health of marine ecosystems, to outreach and awareness of coastal communities who live in remote areas and lack access.
This ship has accompanied various research activities such as monitoring the health of coral reef ecosystems and coastal socio-economics in the Southeast Sulawesi Expedition in 2009 and 2016, as well as Expeditions in Alor waters, East Nusa Tenggara in 2014 and 2017. Menami is also often involved in humanitarian activities such as supporting the activities of medical personnel and village teachers, social services, etc.
As a research and education vessel, KM. Menami, which weighs 63 GT, has a length of 22 meters, a width of 6 meters and a capacity of 16 passengers, is equipped with navigation facilities, meeting rooms, work rooms, diving equipment areas, kitchen and logistics areas, 8 guest/VIP rooms, and 8 crew rooms, 6 bathrooms, open space on the deck, and other educational and research facilities. With these facilities, Menami is able to serve research, education and training activities in all waters and corners of the archipelago to strengthen sustainable marine and fisheries resource management in Indonesia.
