EXPLORING SUSTAINABLE SUPPLY CHAINS: RECKITT, WWF UK, NBI AND WWF-INDONESIA FIELD VISIT TO SEBANGAU - KATINGAN
To promote stronger practices in transparent and sustainable supply chains within priority conservation areas, Reckitt, together with WWF-Indonesia, conducted a field visit to SEKA, Central Kalimantan, in mid-May 2025. This activity is part of the implementation of the project ‘Promoting Responsible Supply Chain Transparency of Sustainable Production in WWF Priority Landscapes & Buffer Areas '
The visit aimed to bring together stakeholders from the private sector, conservation organizations, and local communities. The agenda was designed to build a shared understanding of the challenges and opportunities in managing commodity production that is both environmentally sustainable and socially inclusive.
The series of activities included participatory discussions, visits to farming sites and community forests, as well as direct interaction with communities that have been at the forefront of natural resource management.
Discussions held at several points, including Tehang Tuan, Telaga, and HKM Kapakat Atei also highlighted various challenges faced by the community, such as market uncertainty for agroforestry products, limited access to technical guidance, and the impact of climate change on agricultural productivity. This activity also served as a forum for sharing good practices among farmers and development partners, as well as identifying the need for ongoing assistance to bridge the gap between national policies and real practices on the ground.
The results of this activity not only provide important input for the formulation of further strategies at the project and company level, but also provide tangible evidence that positive change can begin with direct engagement, open communication and a shared commitment to maintaining the balance between economic development and ecosystem sustainability.
This visit to SEKA confirmed that multi-sector collaboration based on trust and field experience can pave the way to equitable management for people and nature.
