CLIMATE CHANGE DISRUPTS CATCHES
JAKARTA The Head of the Marine and Fisheries Research Agency of the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, Gelwin Yusuf, said that fishery catches are also affected by the impacts that arise due to the phenomenon of climate change.
""An important aspect of the impact of climate change is the pressure on food security, including changes in the balance of the composition of the types of catches,"" he said this week.
He explained that if the La Nina phenomenon, which results in a wet drought, lasts until the end of 2010 or early 2011, it will exacerbate the decline in lemuru production, such as in the Bali Strait. %
The decline, he continued, reached 24%. compared to 2009 or about 17% in the last 25 years.
