BREAKING FAST WITH COMMUNITY PARTNERS IN BUMI PANDA
By: Sani Firmansyah and Natalia Trita Agnika
On Sunday (12/07), Bumi Panda and its community partners (communities that usually conduct activities at Bumi Panda) organized an event with the theme "Buka Bareng While Remembering the Environment". The event, which involved the Save Street Child Bandung Community, Earth Hour Bandung, Greeneration Indonesia, and Indonesia Diet Kantong Plastik, also invited a number of street foster children from the Dago intersection and its surroundings.
"Sumatran tigers currently number less than 400 and will continue to decline because many naughty people deliberately hunt them and destroy their homes," explained Kak Sani to the children who took part in the Bumi Panda tour. Then, one of the kids asked, "Sis, how can we help the tiger, since our house is far from the forest?" With great patience, the siblings from Bumi Panda explained that children can help save tigers by adopting an environmentally friendly lifestyle, for example by saving the use of tissues and paper. The more paper or tissue used, the more trees will be cut down to turn it into paper. As a result, the tiger's home will be reduced. During the Bumi Panda tour, the street foster children were also introduced to WWF-Indonesia and the efforts that have been made for environmental conservation.
After the Bumi Panda tour, the children gathered in the Experience Room to watch an animated movie about the journey of water. From the movie, the children were reminded not to be wasteful in using water because the amount of fresh water in the world is only 1%. The atmosphere got warmer and more cheerful when they participated in question-and-answer and snakes and ladders games. They were then invited to put their handprints on a banner as a campaign that everyone can be a solution for nature conservation. The highlight of the ngabuburit event was a short lecture with a message that we should take good care of the environment because protecting nature is included in God's commandments written in the holy Al-Quran.
