ANDRA, LOVE AS A PANDA MOBILE VOLUNTEER
By: Natalia Trita Agnika
Casandra Gitaputri (22) is a Panda Mobile volunteer. She joined WWF-Indonesia's education truck in November 2013. At that time, the woman who is familiarly called Andra was still in the fourth semester of college. Her passion for social action was sparked when she saw the announcement of Panda Mobile's open recruitment on WWF-Indonesia's Facebook page. She also searched for information about Panda Mobile from YouTube and WWWF-Indonesia's Facebook.
Of the 100 people selected for the interview stage, she made it through and attended the two-day training stage to become a Panda Mobile volunteer. "By becoming a Panda Mobile volunteer, I can gain more volunteer experience, make more friends, gain more knowledge about forests, the environment, including problems and solutions," said the woman who was once active as a City Coordinator at Earth Hour Depok.
When she first became a Panda Mobile volunteer, Andra had to assist kindergarten students in Bintaro, South Tangerang. He had an exciting experience when he had to organize the children to be orderly and neat. It was also the first time Andra taught the children to make paper bags from old newspapers.
For almost two years, the woman who works as an Account Executive has been actively volunteering with Panda Mobile. During that time, she had many interesting experiences. But the experience she remembers the most was when she volunteered at Pembangunan Jaya Elementary School and assisted more than 300 elementary school students. Andra helped the students answer all the questions in the Fun Trivia Post. As a result, after the activity, his voice immediately disappeared.
When asked why he is still active until now when there are only a few volunteers in his class, the top 15 finalist of Abang Mpok Depok 2014 answered enthusiastically, "I love being a volunteer. Joining the Panda Mobile volunteer team is quite a long struggle, it's a shame if I'm not active." "I learn to manage my time, organize an activity, learn how to deal with children and their antics, and learn how to manage waste," she explained.
December 5 is always celebrated as International Volunteer Day. It is not only a celebration of volunteers in all fields but also an appreciation for volunteers. Being a volunteer means being an agent of change. Volunteers give their time, effort, skills and energy to change the planet for the better. Andra also actualizes her volunteer identity in her daily life through an eco-friendly lifestyle and preferring environmentally friendly products. Want to be like Andra and become an agent of change to change the earth for the better? Let's join as a Panda Mobile volunteer.
