Almost 40% of Heart of Borneo area is under concession in the forestry, mining or palm oil sectors. Last year WWF spoke to over 80 businesses from in and around the Heart of Borneo (HoB) in these forest based industries. They told us that they wanted to know more about the government’s plans and goals in HoB, more about the solutions available for sustainable business and in particular the business case for action both today and those which might be available in future – what we call ‘sustainable finance’.
In January this year we launched a network called Heart of Borneo Green Business Network to better inform business of HoB and catalyze sustainable business through awareness rising and practical, action focused events, training and solutions development. WWF will host an event where Indonesian and international business leaders will talk about the business opportunities relevant to company by going green. This day is the first time the Green Business Network will get together and start a practical dialogue between business, government, investors and donors to identify practical solutions to support sustainable business across 40% of the forests of Heart of Borneo.
