for your endless support during the Year of the Tiger Campaign 2010.
Many success stories have been made during the Year of the Tiger 2010:
- 1,769 people donated through Sahabat Harimau - a one time donation for WWF conservation program on Sumatran tiger.
- 65,000 trees to be planted in 100 hectares of Tesso Nilo forest - one of critical habitat of sumatran tigers – as a result of youth initiative ‘Forest Friends’
- 221,619 people have been reached with WWF’s school visits, Panda Mobile, and various exhibitions – highlighting the urgency of protecting Sumatran tigers
- Over 11,000 people visit Wonder Eyes Photo Exhibitions in Jakarta, Bali, Medan, Pekanbaru, and Japan, displaying photographs made by children from two important tiger landscapes, Bukit Barisan Selatan & Tesso Nilo, Sumatra.
- Government of Indonesia pledged to protect six critical landscapes for sumatran tiger – as part of commitment to double the tiger number by 2022.
- Government of Indonesia announced RIMBA landscapes in three provinces, habitat of Sumatran tiger – Riau, Jambi , West Sumatra –as an area to demonstrate ecosystem-based spatial plan and low carbon economy model
- 430,581 online visitors participates at WWF-Indonesia’s online campaign on Sumatran tigers
- Government of Indonesia signed a Letter of Intent with Kingdom of Norway on reducing greenhouse gas emission from deforestation and forest degradation, which include prime Sumatran tiger habitat
- 47 people – mostly law enforcement officials – joint WWF’s training on eradication of illegal wildlife trade and poaching
- 79 sling and nilon snares have been confiscated in key tiger habitats in Riau province by Ministry of Forestry Officials/ BKSDA, in collaboration with WWF-Indonesia’s tiger patrol team and National Park Authority.
The tiger is an indicator species for healthy forests, and 2011 has already seen strong continuing support for tigers and their habitat.
As Year of the Tiger closes, we must redouble our efforts and ensure this magnificent species continues to roar into the next Year of the Tiger in 2022.
