WWF: ERRATIC SEASONS A SIGN OF CLIMATE BREAKDOWN
Palangkaraya (ANTARA News) - WWF Indonesia considers that global climate change is now increasingly felt, characterized by the erratic rotation of the rainy and dry seasons.
""By the end of July, it should be dry, but in fact it is still raining everywhere, even Jakarta was hit by heavy rains yesterday, this is a sign that the climate has changed,"" Iwan Wibisono from WWF Indonesia, in Palangkaraya, Tuesday.
As a speaker at a journalist workshop on reducing emissions from Kalimantan's forests, especially Sebangau National Park, he said that not only was the season erratic but global climate change was characterized by an increasing number of weather-related disasters.
""In the past, the island of Java was almost rarely hit by hurricanes called tornadoes, but now the disaster often befalls the region, even though the Java Island area is not said to be an open area,"" he said.
The cases of tornado disasters are heard everywhere, which indicates that the weather is no longer friendly and it is a sign of something about the world's climate.
Not to mention flood disasters, landslide disasters, and forest and bush fires and smoke in the dry season all indicate that.
The world is indeed getting hotter, marked by the melting of ice floes, sea levels continue to rise, several islands in the world have been lost, even the threat of global warming will destroy several island countries.
The head of state of the Maldives has repeatedly expressed his concern about the increase in sea water, and it is estimated that the country will sink in the future if there is no concrete action to reduce the level of global warming.
Even some other island countries, such as Fiji also proposed to all parties to budget funds to save the earth from the disaster of global warming.
The island nation, has now also explored various other countries, if it turns out that sea water continues to rise and they are forced to exodus looking for a safe place from the disaster.
Global warming is so terrible, not only the increasingly hot weather that makes humans uncomfortable, but other impacts are very large, for example, there will be food shortages where agricultural crops can no longer grow well to produce food products.
Drought that causes damage to drinking water resources will also be a big problem, in addition to other impacts,
There is no other choice now, how to save the world from the impact of warming, of course, by reducing the level of carbon emissions into the atmosphere.
According to Iwan Wibisono, there are two actions that can be taken to prevent the increasing global warming.
First, he said through mitigation, namely reducing the impact of global warming by reducing emissions and absorption of greenhouse gases, the second is adaptation action.
This adaptation action is a step to reduce the vulnerability of nature and humans to the impacts of climate change, said Iwan Wibisono.
