WE HAVE NO FOREST & GOLD TO PROSPER THE PEOPLE OF WONDAMA BAY DISTRICT

"EMAS", Elok, Maju, Aman and Sejahtera based on love and honesty, that is the vision of the Regent of Teluk Wondama Regency Drs. Bernard A. Imburi M.Si and Vice Regent Dr. Drs. Paulus Y. Indubri, period 2016-2021.
To realize his dream, Regent Imburi has a principle, every person or institution present in Wasior must be met to hear what their intentions and goals are. Wondama Bay, which is located in the inner part of Cenderawasih Bay, must be difficult to reach. For this reason, those who come and want to meet with the local government mean that they want to do something useful for the people on the earth of Wamesa.
This was expressed by the Regent of Teluk Wondama Regency when starting the discussion of the draft document of the Cooperation Agreement between the Government of Teluk Wondama Regency, the Cenderawasih Bay National Park Center (BBTNTC) and WWF-Indonesia which took place in the Bappeda office hall on Tuesday (5/12). According to Regent Imburi, to realize the vision of "Golden" Wondama Bay, the Wondama Bay Regency government cannot work alone. ""For this reason, we welcome the cooperation agreement made and signed by me as the Regent of Teluk Wondama Regency, the Head of the Cenderawasih Bay National Park and the Director of WWF-Indonesia Papua Program,"" he said.
The area of Teluk Wondama Regency is 85% within the conservation area. In the water area, it is entirely within the Cenderawasih Bay National Park area and in the land area as a border and within the Wondiwoi Mountains Nature Reserve. "This causes us to have neither forests nor gold that can be exploited to realize and present "GOLD" in this region. But we are confident that the potential of the Cenderawasih Bay National Park area and the Wondiwoi Mountains Nature Reserve, will be valuable capital in supporting efforts to increase Regional Original Revenue (PAD). The tourism sector will be the only leading sector for Teluk Wondama Regency in increasing Regional Original Revenue (PAD).
According to Regent Imburi, Wondama Bay Regency has quite complete tourism potential. This area has marine potential that is no less interesting than Raja Ampat. In addition, the culture of the Wamesa tribe that inhabits the Wondama Bay peninsula has its own charm. Aitumeri Hill, a historical site of Papuan civilization. It was from Aitumeri Hill that formal education in Papua began, after two German visitors set foot on Mansinam Island on February 5, 1855. It was on Aitumer Hill that pastor I.S Kinje, one of the missionaries who is legendary among GKI residents in the Land of Papua, got the inspiration to write a hymn book of Psalms and Spiritual Songs which is now used as a hymn by GKI residents. In Yende Village there is an old church with the oldest biblical / evangelical relics in Papua. For this reason, if all of this potential is well packaged, it is possible that Wondama Bay Regency will become an "alternative destination" tourism in the Land of Papua in the future.
For this reason, Regent Imburi is determined to gradually prepare supporting infrastructure, such as airport development so that medium-sized aircraft can land. Maximizing the sea highway program that has been launched by President Jokowi. Improve telecommunications access, so that tourists visiting Wondama Bay can still interact with the outside world. Arrange the city of Wasior and tourist attraction centers. Communicate this program with the community so that they are not apathetic and prepare the community to become the main actors.
For this reason, through the cooperation built by the Teluk Wondama Regency Government together with the Cenderawasih Bay National Park Center and WWF-Indonesia Papua Program, it is hoped that several ecotourism development model villages and Village Business Entity institutions can be developed as a forum for facilitating alternative economic activities at the village level.
