TURN PLASTIC WASTE INTO UNIQUE WORKS AT TSX 2024
"Yeaayy, finally finished the card holder!" exclaimed Evi Ariesty, one of the Members of Nature (MoNa) members who participated in the workshop with Rappo Indonesia, at WWF-Indonesia's booth at TSX 2024 (The Sustainable Xperience) at Senayan Park Dome, Jakarta, Saturday, October 5, 2024. Evi's satisfied expression was clear on her face after going through a series of plastic waste recycling processes, starting from making patterns from recycled materials and cutting, to sewing. "This is one of my creations today," she said while proudly showing her card holder.
For Evi, participating in this card-holder-making activity was a first-time experience. "I usually sew clothes, but this time it's different, trying to sew recycled materials," she said. Aside from participating in the workshop, she also learned a lot about the types of waste in a suitcase display which was displayed by WWF-Indonesia's Plastic Smart Cities (PSC) Program team. Evi also saw many trash bins that distinguished between organic and inorganic waste at the location of the activity. "It's cool, we can have fun without leaving waste," she said.
Plastic Smart Cities is an initiative launched by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) to encourage cities in the world to stop the leakage of plastic waste into nature. Plastic Smart Cities Indonesia falls under the Plastic Smart Cities Regional.
WWF through the Plastic Smart Cities Program invites city governments to take concrete actions at the city level, in close collaboration with citizens, provincial and national governments, the private sector, academic institutions, and international institutions, to eliminate plastic leakage into nature by 2030.
The series of excitement offered by WWF-Indonesia at the TSX 2024 event was beyond Evi's expectations. Initially, she imagined that she would only listen to talk shows, walk around to see booths, and watch concerts. But, the experience turned out to be much more interesting. Evi feels that she wouldn't have gotten this kind of experience if she wasn't part of MoNa.
WWF-Indonesia's booth at the TSX 2024 event offered a different experience. In addition to the workshop-making card holders, visitors who stop by the WWF-Indonesia booth can also play the spin wheel to get interesting merchandise. Not only that, the WWF Official Store was also present to offer eco-friendly products.
In addition to Evi, there were four other MoNa Friends who attended the TSX 2024 event, namely Tasya, Jordi, Leo, and Teddy. Tasya and Jordi chose to have fun with the WWF Official Store team at the booth by making animal-themed tattoos. "I chose an elephant," Tasya said, smiling happily. Meanwhile, Jordi picked an orangutan to draw on his skin.
After getting tattooed, Jordi also bought products to support WWF-Indonesia through the WWF Official Store. Not only that, Tasya and Jordi also participated in the Challenge Find Kindness. They brought used clothes and collected them at the Friendstivity booth, a community formed by TS Media.
Through this event, WWF-Indonesia provides opportunities for members to get involved in nature conservation efforts. In addition, MoNa members can also learn more about environmental issues, especially related to waste management. Thus, each individual can be more aware and support environmental conservation.
The exciting experience gained by the members in each activity is one of the privileges of WWF-Indonesia's supporting community members. Hopefully, activities like this can inspire other MoNa Friends. So every member can gain different experiences in supporting conservation efforts with W
