SUMATRAN TIGER THEMES FOR GOOGLE CHROME LAUNCHED
Jakarta (June 22, 2010) - Google today introduced the latest and fastest version of its web browser, Google Chrome, to Indonesian users, along with a suite of local features that make the Internet browsing experience more personal and powerful. Together, WWF-Indonesia and Google launched the 'Sumatran Tiger' Theme for Google Chrome.
Available in English and Indonesian on all major operating systems, Google Chrome offers Indonesian users a fast, easy and secure way to access the Internet. As part of its efforts to make the web as useful and user-friendly as possible, Google Chrome today also introduces new localized features created specifically for Indonesian users: seven browser extensions and eight Chrome artist themes. Users can also express themselves through the Chrome app.
Users can also express their personal style through Google Chrome by installing artist themes created by leading Indonesian designers, musicians, celebrities and organizations. WWF-Indonesia was chosen as one of Google Chrome's local partners. The environmental organization contributed with the Sumatran Tiger theme for chrome.
""Our Google Chrome theme features the Sumatran Tiger, the last remaining sub-species of tiger in Indonesia, whose numbers have dwindled to just 400 in the wild due to habitat loss and poaching,"" said Desmarita Murni, Communications Coordinator, Forest and Species Program of WWF Indonesia. "We think that bringing this theme to the computer screen through the internet is the right way to convey messages about Sumatran tiger conservation to internet users. It is hoped that internet users will be able to voice the importance of conserving this highly endangered animal, which of course cannot speak for themselves."
"Google Chrome enables users to quickly, easily, and securely interact with the websites and apps they love; and it's important for us, along with our local partners, to bring that experience to the 45 million Internet users in Indonesia," said Andrew McGlinchey, Head of Product Management, Google Southeast Asia. "As Indonesians spend more and more time online, they need a browser that's fast and powerful but doesn't hold them back. Like the classic Google homepage, Google Chrome has a simple interface with a powerful core to power the modern web."
