On last Wednesday (25/2) WWF-Indonesia had the opportunity to be a resource person at a seminar in a series of "VIT C-Caring Week" activities at Universitas Multimedia Nasional (UMN), Bumi Serpong Damai. Located in the Lecture Hall, the material from WWF-Indonesia raised the theme of the Earth Hour movement.
WWF-Indonesia's Public Engagement Profiling Officer, Irza Rinaldi, shared the details of the Earth Hour movement; from the history, mission and vision of the movement, to the reasons why everyone should be involved in it. Afterwards, WWF-Indonesia's Online and Digital Fundraising Program Officer, Novi Anaktototy, explained about ""crowdfunding"", a donation platform in the Earth Hour movement. The two in parallel revealed how the movement offers an easy solution in energy saving efforts related to stopping the process of global warming. "We can utilize the power of social media to help save nature. By sharing the link to the crowdfunding program on Earth Hour's online donation platform, you have made a real contribution," Novi explained when introducing the donation concept.
The seminar participants listened intently and with great interest to the two materials presented. There were many questions from the participants who consisted of students whose campuses adhered to the principle of green building. The Earth Hour theme was indeed very interesting for the students. "It turns out that unplugging an unused cellphone or taking a friend to campus can also reduce the impact of climate change, right? Easy banget!" said one of the participants.
The seminar that lasted from 2:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. ended with sharing about various environmental issues and conservation efforts carried out by WWF-Indonesia. Until the end of the event, the participants were still enthusiastic. A number of participants even asked about ways to be able to contribute directly to the requirements to register as a WWF-Indonesia volunteer.
