SEBANGAU NEWSLETTER #7 JULY-SEPTEMBER 2010
The 7th edition of Sebangau Newsletter features WWF-Indonesia's orangutan conservation program in Sebangau. Sebangau National Park will be developed as orangutan research center, along with two other national parks, Betung Kerihun and Danau Sentarum NP. The concept of the orangutan research center emphasizes on research aspect and potential development for orangutan research-based ecotourism. The ecotourism program aims at improving the livelihood for the community living around the research center and orangutan habitat.
Moreover it highlights the ecotourism regulation in Kamipang Sub-district. Three villages in Kamipang; Baun Bango, Jahanjang, and Keriung have been decided as pilot project for community-based ecotourism . Sebangau NP office and Katingan Cultural and Tourism Board facilitated the building agreement process on community-based ecotourism in Keriung and Baun Bango.
