SAR TEAM HALTS SEARCH FOR SURYA, RESEARCHER MISSING ON GILI TEPEKONG BALI
Karangasem, Bali - Friday, December 18, 2020, The search for I Gede Surya Risuana (Surya), a representative of the Bali Provincial Marine and Fisheries Service (DKP) who went missing allegedly swept away on Saturday, December 12, 2020 in the waters of Gili Tepekong, Karangasem regency, Bali, was suspended today.
I Gusti Ngurah Eka Wiyadnyana, Coordinator of the Karangasem Search and Rescue Post at the search effort evaluation meeting explained that the Joint SAR Team had carried out search and rescue operations for Surya for 7 days combing sea, air and land areas since 12/12. Based on the National Search and Rescue Agency Law No.29/2014, search operations are stopped after a period of seven days with no signs of the target being found.
"We have followed up all information from various parties about possible search areas. We continue to communicate and coordinate also involving various parties such as the community, fishermen and volunteer groups. We would like to express our gratitude for the tremendous support from all parties towards this humanitarian mission," said I Gusti Ngurah Eka Wiyadnyana

"On behalf of Surya's extended family, I also appreciate all parties who have mobilized all facilities and resources in the search for Surya. May your good deeds be rewarded. We here have the same optimism and faith, but God will decide. Our message is for fellow researchers to carry on Surya's spirit to continue developing science," said I Made Sudarsana, Surya's uncle.
The Joint Research Team and WWF Indonesia Foundation together with Surya's family plan to continue the search independently until the ninth day (20/12) under the coordination of BASARNAS. It is hoped that the public, especially those who are active in the water / sea, will be pleased to convey information or help monitor if they see the possibility of Surya's whereabouts, so that they can immediately contact interested parties.
