PT CASSANATAMA NATURINDO'S COMMITMENT TO SUPPORT SUSTAINABLE FISHERIES
By: Kurnia Dwi Agustina (Seafood Savers Communication Assistant)
With a passion to preserve fisheries resources for the sustainability of its business, PT Cassanatama Naturindo joined Seafood Savers after going through assessment, improvement and planning stages. This is also supported by the increasing awareness of the company's target market, which increasingly wants processed fishery products produced in a responsible manner.
By joining Seafood Savers, PT Cassanatama Naturindo agreed to carry out a series of fisheries improvement activities for the natural capture shrimp commodity. This improvement program includes various activities that are essential in sustaining the sustainability of fisheries resources in its business supply chain. Data collection, fulfillment of legality requirements applicable in the business location, and improved governance are part of it. Each of these improvement steps is summarized in the Fisheries Improvement Program (FIP) Work Plan document prepared by the WWF-Indonesia Fisheries Team with PT Cassanatama Naturindo. The program will take place in WPP 712 - Pati & Demak, Central Java over the next five years.
Within a predetermined period of time, WWF-Indonesia will routinely conduct assistance and assessments to improve fisheries activities that take place in the area. The improvement activities refer to the international standard of sustainable fisheries developed by the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC), a third-party certification for sustainable fisheries. The three principles on which the MSC is based are stock sustainability, minimal impact on ecosystems and good fisheries management.
PT Cassanatama Naturindo is a producer of traditional Indonesian snacks such as shrimp crackers and fish crackers. The company has exported its products to several countries in Europe, especially the Netherlands, Belgium and the UK. The company, which was established in 1994 and is headquartered in Semarang, registered the commodities Metapenaeus Monoceros, Metapenaeus Indicus and Penaeus Indicus and started the FIP implementation process towards MSC certification.
