PROSECUTORS CARE ABOUT ANIMALS: PROTECTING WILDLIFE AND ECOSYSTEMS
The Kuantan Singingi State Attorney's Office held a launching event for "Prosecutors Care for Animals", a collaboration program between the Kuantan Singingi State Attorney's Office and WWF-Indonesia Foundation - Central Sumatra in Teluk Kuantan, Kuantan Singingi, Monday, February 10, 2020.
The "Prosecutors Care for Animals" program aims to provide understanding to the community, especially in Kuantan Singingi Regency, about efforts to protect wildlife and their ecosystems. One of the activities of this program is socialization by visiting villages and providing counseling related to law enforcement against protected wildlife.
"The collaboration between the Kuantan Singingi District Attorney's Office and WWF-Indonesia began with the handling of two wildlife cases that occurred in 2019, namely, the death of one Sumatran Tiger (Panthera tigris sumatrae) due to sling snares and the poaching of one Rhinoceros Hornbill (Buceros rhinoceros)." The Head of the Kuantan Singingi District Attorney's Office, Hadiman SH, MH, explained.
The launch of the Animal Care Prosecutor program was highly appreciated by the Head of the Riau High Prosecutor's Office, Dr. Mia Amiati, SH., MH, who was present at the Kuansing District Prosecutor's Office to inaugurate the program.
"There are so many regulations related to the environment and wildlife that are not yet understood by the public. So this socialization program is very necessary to prevent criminal acts that can harm the environment and society." said Dr. Mia Amiati, SH, MH when giving opening remarks.
"The local government of Kuantan Singingi Regency is committed to protecting the environment and animal preservation and signed the Rimbang Baling agreement charter which aims to protect nature." said the Regent of Kuantan Singingi Regency, Drs. H. Mursini.
The launching event was followed by a socialization on the protection of animals and their ecosystems and the role of the Attorney General's Office in supporting such protection presented by the Head of the Riau High Prosecutor's Office, Dr. Mia Amiati, SH, MH.
Prior to the event, a joint agreement was signed between the Kuantan Singingi District Attorney's Office and WWF- Indonesia Central Sumatra Program for the implementation of the Animal Care Prosecutor Program. It is hoped that this socialization activity will increase the synergy between government agencies and law enforcement officials in realizing a joint commitment to protect the environment in Kuantan Singingi.
