PRESS CONFERENCE: GALA DINNER "A TRIBUTE TO THE SEA"
The Coral Triangle is a 6 million square kilometer center of the world's marine biodiversity that spans Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Papua New Guinea, Timor Leste and the Solomon Islands. In this region, 76% of the world's coral reef species, 6 of the world's 7 species of sea turtles, and at least 2,228 species of coral reef fishes live.
Within the spectacular seascapes of the Coral Triangle and its natural riches lie tragic stories: overexploitation of coral reefs, climate change, coral bleaching, dwindling fish stocks and endangered species. This natural degradation is not only a threat to marine biodiversity, but also to human populations. An estimated 120 million people live in the Coral Triangle region, of which around 2.25 million are fishers who depend on healthy seas to survive.
In response to this phenomenon, WWF collaborated with the governments of the six countries mentioned above, to support the Coral Triangle Initiative (CTI) on Coral Reefs, Fisheries, and Food Security. The ultimate vision of this global initiative is for the oceans and coasts of the Coral Triangle region to remain productive and healthy, and to provide habitat, food and livelihoods for future generations. In line with this mission, a multi-stakeholder collaboration to raise funds for the CTI program will be held in Jakarta through a Gala Dinner to promote the mission of ocean conservation through concrete steps by consuming only 'Sustainable Seafood', one of which is to stop the consumption of shark fins. The evening, titled "A Tribute to the Sea", will be attended by Indonesian government officials, ambassadors of friendly countries, leaders of social and business organizations.
In order to socialize this important collaboration, we invite media partners to attend a press conference which will be held at:
