PANDA MOBILE ENLIVENS EARTH DAY COMMEMORATION AT FACULTY OF EARTH SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY ITB

As time goes by, the Earth we live on is getting older and more fragile. Without our care, the Earth is getting older and the condition is getting worse. Environmental damage occurs here and there because of the actions of humans who do not care about the Earth. Illegal forest encroachment, hunting of protected animals, excessive use of natural water resources, and littering are some examples of the causes.
When there is an opportunity to invite the public to open their eyes to the current condition of the Earth, WWF-Indonesia's Panda Mobile uses it well. Such was the case last Saturday (28/04), when the Faculty of Earth Science & Technology, Bandung Institute of Technology invited Panda Mobile WWF-Indonesia to enliven the commemoration of Earth Day titled "Earth Day Festival".
The series of events "Earth Day Festival" began with a parade around the campus environment. Activities that collaborate with several communities are also filled with various environmental-themed exhibitions. One of them was about how to manage waste. "I understand better why waste must be sorted and managed," said Audrey, a high school student in Bandung.
Furthermore, WWF-Indonesia's Panda Mobile shared information about conservation efforts that are being carried out and various challenges to the preservation of biodiversity and the environment in Indonesia. "Currently, the ocean is threatened by the amount of garbage. This is directly proportional to the increasing damage to the ecosystem that occurs and the death of several species in the sea," said Sani, WWF-Indonesia's Supporter Center Officer. "WWF-Indonesia team found a dead sea turtle and after necropsy, they found a lot of garbage, especially plastic bags. (This could be) because the turtle cannot distinguish between jellyfish as its food and plastic bags," he added.
"The action to save the Earth turns out to be very easy by starting small things from ourselves, such as throwing garbage in its place. This can maintain the sustainability of the ecosystem on this Earth. Hopefully, with the arrival of WWF-Indonesia's Mobile Panda team to our campus environment, it can increase the awareness of all campus components to be able to support the conservation efforts carried out by WWF-Indonesia," hoped Annisa Fiqih, a student of the Faculty of Earth Science & Technology, Bandung Institute of Technology.
