NURTURING YOUNG GENERATION'S AWARENESS THROUGH ENVIRONMENTAL JAMBOREE
SINTANG - Hundreds of students from various high schools throughout Sintang Regency participated in the 2017 Environmental Jamboree centered in Kelam Permai Sub-district, 27-29 April. The theme of this jamboree was: Young, Active, and Caring.
The Regent of Sintang in his written speech read by the Head of the Environmental Agency HA Darmanata appreciated the initiative of WWF-Indonesia to hold an Environmental Jamboree targeting the younger generation. "This is one of our joint endeavors to raise the awareness of the younger generation towards the future of planet earth," he said in Kelam Permai, Thursday (27/4/2017).
According to him, in every environmental momentum, there is always hope that the earth on this footing can be preserved and preserved. This is one of our efforts to make the earth a comfortable and safe living space.
However, Darmanata continued, the condition of the earth has slowly been damaged by human actions. The impact has been felt every day. Therefore, environmental development must be done together. One of them is by building awareness from an early age.
"I invite participants to continue to establish interactions between each other. Thus the Environmental Jamboree can contribute significantly to the development process. Let us continue to establish environmental synergy in Sintang," he pleaded.
WWF-Indonesia West Kalimantan Program as the initiator of the Environmental Jamboree, focuses more on efforts to sensitize the younger generation to environmental issues.
"The issue of sustainable development is a necessity. Its scope includes economic, social, and environmental aspects. These are the three main pillars in the context of its implementation must be balanced," said M Munawir, Market Transformation Initiative Coordinator WWF-Indonesia West Kalimantan Program.
According to Munawir, education is one of the targets agreed upon as an indicator of sustainability. This is in line with the vision and mission of the Sintang District Government. One of its missions is to implement quality education development rooted in local culture.
"This Environmental Jamboree is one of the tools to support the vision and mission of the Sintang Regency Government. Very likely, students in school have not received direct intake of environmental science. Well, this Environmental Jamboree is designed with material that is cognitive, affective, and psychomotor," he explained.
Meanwhile, the Chief Executive of the Environmental Jamboree, Jatu Rahmawati, said that the three-day activity aims to sensitize students about the importance of participating in sustainable development. "We are trying to spur the role of the younger generation to take real action in the school environment in applying sustainable principles," she explained.
Jatu hopes that this Environmental Jamboree will give birth to seeds of concern and creativity of the younger generation to maintain the quality and balance of nature. "The most important thing is that there are actors of change in the school environment who care about the environment," he explained.
At this year's Environmental Jamboree, the committee held a number of events. Among them are the #Beliyangbaik campaign, presentations on plants and wildlife, mural exhibition, environmental journalism, guiding, leadership training, crafts, and youth real action management.
