NATIONAL ACTION TO HELP SMOKE VICTIMS
Jakarta, October 28, 2015- The haze disaster that occurs in several locations in Sumatra and Kalimantan, encourages the Earth Hour Indonesia movement to take national action in solidarity for haze victims. This simultaneous action in 15 cities in Indonesia, aims to invite all levels of society to help haze victims through fundraising, masks, medicines and other necessities needed.
The action took place on Sunday, October 25, 2015 and was packaged creatively in each city. Wearing a mask and holding a board with a message of support for the smog victims and putting a piece of cloth on the nose and mouth of the hero statue, are two of the many creative forms to attract public attention as well as a symbol of solidarity with smog victims.
In this action, the Earth Hour Indonesia movement also invites people to become smart consumers by buying products labeled as environmentally friendly. This is done as a form of reducing deforestation and land clearing carried out by companies that heed EIA, in producing goods for the needs of the community.
As is known, the smoke disaster that has occurred in the last few months has not only had an impact on the economy but also on public health issues that are prone to ISPA to fatalities. As quoted by republika.co.id (October 28, 2015), Minister of Social Affairs Khofifah Indar Parawansa said, until now 19 people have died due to the impact of smoke. The casualties were scattered in various regions. Among them are in Central Kalimantan, South Sumatra, Riau, Jambi, and South Kalimantan.
By carrying out solidarity actions to help smoke victims, it is hoped that it can ease the burden on the victims as well as provide moral encouragement that they are not alone in passing the smoke disaster that is still ongoing. The results of the fundraising will later be donated to the victims of haze in several regions in Indonesia.
