IT TAKES A STRONG BODY TO KEEP THE EARTH HEALTHY: ECO ECHO TRAIL RUN COOPERATION BETWEEN WWF-INDONESIA AND SALINGJAGA
Bandung, October 5, 2025 - WWF-Indonesia, together with SalingJaga, held a trail run titled Eco Echo Trail Run in the green area of Taman Hutan Raya (Tahura), Bandung. More than just a sport, the Eco Echo Trail Run is a space for education and real action for environmental conservation.
Participants are invited to run through the lush urban forest, absorb fresh air, and feel directly connected to nature. In addition to running, various interactive activities such as an upcycle workshop, environmental education through Panda Mobile, and musical performances also colored the event. With an inclusive and fun concept, WWF-Indonesia hopes that this activity can raise public awareness about the importance of protecting forests, biodiversity, and ecosystems as life support.
"Awareness is not enough; we need real action. Through this activity, we want to invite people to be actively involved in environmental conservation in a fun way. If done together and consistently, this small action can bring big changes for a more sustainable future of the earth," said Rusyda Deli, Director of Partnership WWF-Indonesia.
The name Eco Echo has a symbolic meaning: echoing action, giving appreciation, and encouraging public collaboration in protecting nature. Every small step taken by an individual, like an echo, can expand and create a lasting impact on the earth.
This spirit continues the legacy of the late Dr. Jane Goodall, a global conservationist who emphasized throughout her life that every person, every day, has an impact on the planet, and we can choose what kind of impact we want to leave behind. Especially today, issues such as plastic pollution, the climate crisis, and biodiversity loss are becoming serious challenges. By continuing to resonate the awareness of how crucial collective action from everyone is, the Eco Echo Trail Run is a tangible manifestation of that belief that sustainability is not just the responsibility of institutions, but a calling for all.
That meaning is amplified when each individual realizes that all of our actions matter, and each step leaves a lasting imprint on the environment, like a continuous echo.
The Less Plastic Campaign: From Small Steps to Big Impact
The main issue raised in the Eco Echo Trail Run is plastic pollution. Through this activity, WWF-Indonesia encourages lifestyle changes by emphasizing the importance of reducing single-use plastics and responsible waste management.
"We want to raise public awareness that waste management is the responsibility of all. Collective participation of the public is needed to be wiser in using single-use plastics as well as managing their waste and striving for zero waste in their daily activities. By sharing knowledge about integrated waste management systems, we can jointly reduce plastic leakage into nature," said Rusyda.
WWF-Indonesia's broader commitment to this issue is reflected through the Plastic Smart Cities (PSC) program that collaborates with local governments, communities, and various stakeholders to build an integrated and sustainable waste management system.
For almost five years, PSC has been assisting Jakarta, Depok City, and Bogor City in reducing plastic pollution in nature by 2030. WWF-Indonesia's efforts are carried out through a consumption and production behavior change approach with all stakeholders in the cities. As a result, to date, the PSC project has successfully contributed to waste reduction by 11% of the total waste reduction target set by the government. In addition, PSC has succeeded in initiating a multi-stakeholder collaboration mechanism and providing a mid-scale integrated waste management system that can be replicated by other cities in Indonesia.
Collaboration with SalingJaga: Footsteps and Heartsteps
In this event, SalingJaga-a gotong royong insurance service, initiated by Kitabisa-presented as a key partner. As a platform that emphasizes solidarity and collective protection, SalingJaga's participation strengthens the meaning of this activity as a bridge between caring for others and caring for the environment.
SalingJaga CEO Bryan Silfanus said, "We hope that by combining footsteps and heartsteps, SalingJaga, Kitabisa, WWF-Indonesia, and Eco Echo Trail Run can be a bridge of change. Because with every step we take, there is protection, there is hope that grows, there are forests that are preserved, there are animals that are protected, and there is the future of the earth that we are fighting for," he concluded.
