ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION MODULE FOR ELEMENTARY SCHOOL IN JAYAPURA ENHANCED
Jayapura, January 30, 2012 - The Jayapura City Education and Teaching Office and WWF-Indonesia Papua Program (Sahul Region) held a Socialization and Review of Environmental Education Module Integrated with Science Subjects for Elementary Schools in Jayapura City. This socialization aims to gather inputs for the improvement of environmental education module integrated with Science subject for elementary schools in Jayapura City.
Acting Director of WWF-Indonesia Papua Program Erita Nurdiani in her speech expressed her appreciation for the support of the Jayapura City P&P Office for the program. Furthermore, she also hoped for continuous cooperation to build awareness and insight of the younger generation about the importance of the environment for life and sustainable development in Jayapura City."
The socialization and review event was opened by the Acting Head of the Kindergarten & Elementary Education Division Drs.Cliford Korwa, M.Pd representing the Head of the Jayapura City P&P Office. As a collaborative program that has been running for two years, the preparation of this environmental education module is now entering the final stage and is expected to be tested in a number of sample schools in Jayapura City. This environmental education module contains basic knowledge about the environment with examples that raise local Papuan content specifically in Jayapura City.
The Environmental Education Module integrated in the Natural Science subject is part of a collaboration that began with the signing of an MOU between the Jayapura City P&P Office and WWF-Indonesia Papua Program in 2010. Each grade level from grade one to grade six of elementary school will receive a different module according to the level and material description and evaluation of environmental knowledge that can be found in Jayapura City.
The event was attended by the Head of the TK&SD Education Division and officials from the Jayapura City P&P Office, elementary school supervisors, principals of the pilot schools, LPMP Papua, WWF-Indonesia Team and the teachers who developed the environmental education module. In 2012, it is expected that the module that has been tested in several elementary schools can be immediately implemented in the teaching and learning process of science subjects in the ten sample schools.
