EAFM INDICATOR ASSESSMENT WORKSHOP IN BANGGAI, CENTRAL SULAWESI PUBLISHED

In October-September 2013, the team of the College of Fisheries and Marine (STPL) Palu as one of the campuses that became the Ecosystem Approach to Fisheries Management (EAFM) assessment team conducted field data collection in Banggai and Banggai Laut districts, Central Sulawesi. The results of the data collection have become the EAFM assessment report and compiled by the working group. As a follow-up to this activity, the team from STPL will present the results of the fisheries performance assessment in the two districts. The results of the assessment of fisheries performance in the two districts were presented through the EAFM Indicator Assessment Workshop in Banggai and Banggai Laut Districts, Central Sulawesi, which was held on Tuesday, June 24, 2014 at the Istana Hotel - Luwuk.
The event presented approximately 17 invited guests from the ranks of the Department of Fisheries and Marine Affairs, Environmental Agency, companies from Banggai, Banggai Islands and Banggai Laut districts and universities. The workshop was opened with remarks by Mr. Samliok Ndobe as chairman of the committee and chairman of STPL Palu followed by the opening ceremony led by the Regent of Banggai. The delivery of the understanding of EAFM was carried out by WWF-Indonesia, then the results of the assessment of EAFM indicators in Banggai and Banggai Laut districts were delivered by STPL Palu which was made in 3 sessions.
In the discussion and Q&A session, there were many questions and inputs related to fisheries management with an ecosystem approach. Furthermore, the Marine and Fisheries Service (DKP) of Banggai and Banggai Laut Districts expressed their readiness to implement fisheries management to maintain the sustainability of fish resources in accordance with the principles of EAFM.
