DR. EFRANSJAH: NEW CEO FOR WWF INDONESIA
WWF-Indonesia is proud to announce that Dr Efransjah has recently been appointed Chief Executive Officer of the 380-strong conservation organization. Dr. Efransjah or better known as Pak Efransjah leads WWF-Indonesia officially starting on 15 June 2010.
Born in Asahan District, North Sumatra on 6 June 1956, Pak Efransjah previously served as Regional Coordinator for South-East and East Asia for the Centre for International Forestry Research (CIFOR) in Indonesia. He was earlier assigned as the senior adviser for external relations at CIFOR Director General Office, in charge of the Liaison Office with the host-country and the Coordinator of Secretariat of Asia Forest Partnership (AFP).
Before joining CIFOR in mid-September 2008, Pak Efransjah was the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Chief Technical Adviser in charge of a large Global Environment Facility (GEF) project working on the biodiversity conservation in wetland ecosystems (2002-2008) in the Malaysian states of Pahang, Sarawak and Sabah.
Starting his career with the Indonesian Ministry of Forestry (1981- 1992), Pak Efransjah embarked on a new challenge when he represented Indonesia at the International Tropical Timber Organization (ITTO) in Yokohama, Japan, as the Project Manager (Asia and Pacific region) from 1993 to 2002.
A forester by training, Pak Efransjah graduated from the prestigious Bogor Agricultural University (IPB-1980). He pursued higher education in France and completed his Master and Doctoral degrees in Sciences du Bois (Forest Science), at the Universite de Nancy I, in 1988. He is married with one child.
