By: Rizki Aulia Adha (Volunteer Panda Mobile)
The atmosphere that morning (11/04) at Kinderland Bonavista, Lebak Bulus, was very lively. Several students were seen swaying in a fashion show organized by the school.
After the fashion show was over, the Panda Mobile team, who were also invited to enliven the event, introduced themselves and conveyed the purpose of coming to the school. The students showed their enthusiasm when asked to name the animals that are umbrella species. "Elephant!" one student exclaimed out loud. Other students also responded by mentioning other animals.
The students, aged one to six years old, then enjoyed a story from Kak Ryan about rare animals. Their image of one of the animals was further strengthened by coloring pictures of orangutans. Denaya, one of Panda Mobile's volunteers explained the difference between a monkey and an orangutan. "A monkey has a smaller body and a long tail. Whereas orangutans have a bigger body and no tail," she explained.
The excitement was also seen when they played "Explore Papua". The students were given a card with a picture of one of the animals from Papua, such as cassowary, tree kangaroo, and leatherback turtle. The card also explained the characteristics of each animal. The "Explore Papua" game shows that Papua is rich in fauna and it is hoped that they will help preserve these animals. "We as humans must love and protect these animals, yes!" said Syifa, one of the volunteers Panda Mobile.
The last activity was watching a movie called "Tiger Hunter". Before watching, the students were given an explanation about tigers. They were informed that there are less than 400 tigers left in their natural habitat. The students looked enthusiastic about the storyline of the movie. When the movie was over, one of the volunteers explained the message. "Although humans have been bad to animals, in the end, animals still save humans. So all of you must help protect animals and their environment!" said Kiki, a Panda Mobile volunteer. Suddenly there was a shout from one of the students, "I love tiger and I like the movie!"
