After being briefed by WWF-Indonesia's Panda Mobile on how to deliver environmental materials to students, students of the Exchange ProgramAIESEC IPB finally made their first visit to a school with WWF-Indonesia's Panda Mobile. Their first visit was to SDN 02 Katulampa, Bogor, on Monday (15/01).
Carrying the theme of "Waste Management", the team had to struggle with makeshift equipment to campaign for waste management to the 5th grade students of SDN 02 Katulampa, Bogor. With cardboard, markers, and other props, they tried to make the information well received. The students were asked to write a mind map about waste management around their school. The students were also asked to categorize the types of waste in the pictures they made. To clarify the information, one of the Exchange Program students brought examples of types of waste and examples of objects that can be made using waste.
The students from the Netherlands, Australia, and Vietnam taught in different classes. The arrival of the students was greeted enthusiastically by the students. Moreover, they have never had foreign students before. The atmosphere warmed up when the students were invited to dance and play together before getting into the material about waste management. The AIESEC IPB Exchange Program students together with Panda Mobile invited the children to sort organic and inorganic waste. The students also gained knowledge on how to process organic and inorganic waste from video shows.
"So, what do you think about waste? " asked Ellen Hoorn, a student from the Netherlands. Many students raised their hands to answer the question. "We can manage waste with the 3Rs, Kak, reduce, reuse, recycle," exclaimed one student.
WWF-Indonesia's volunteersPanda Mobile also asked questions. Those who managed to answer got attractive prizes. For about two hours, laughter and jokes filled the activity. But not only that, the students also got a lot of information and ways of waste management. This is useful for them because their school is located in an area adjacent to the river.
After getting information about waste and its management, the students promised to pay more attention to the use of plastic, paper, and also always bring their own drinking bottles. Hopefully, by starting from these small things, it will be able to have a bigger positive impact.
