LEARN TO LOVE ANIMALS WITH PANDA MOBILE
By: Annisa Ayu (Volunteer Panda Mobile)
The arrival of WWF-Indonesia's Panda Mobile education truck to Ar-Ridha Al Salaam Islamic Green School, Cinere, Depok, on Tuesday (31/10), was warmly welcomed. The students were very enthusiastic when the back cabin of the Panda Mobile truck was opened. Students who had begun to gather and sit neatly in the school yard were invited to get acquainted with volunteers from WWF-Indonesia's Panda Mobile. They were then invited to listen to a story told by Kak Ryan and Kak Biyong. The students seemed eager to listen to the story that began with a fun song. Occasional laughter was heard because the characters told in the fairy tales acted funny and adorable.
After listening to the story, the students were then divided into four groups, each of which would do different activities accompanied by Panda Mobile volunteers. The four posts were game post, movie post, water lab post, and 3R (reduce, reuse, recycle) activity post. At the game station, they were invited to play "Explore Papua" and "Engklek". Both games invite children to learn to love animals so that they can live freely in nature. The students got to know various Papuan animals by reading clues about their characteristics. Their love for turtles was also honed through a giant cranklek game with the theme "Turtle".
The next post was no less interesting. The students watched the movies "Tiger Hunter", "Quartet at the Crossroads", and "The World is Where We Live". The stories in the movies taught them to care more about protecting the environment around them.
The students were also invited to be more concerned about the availability of clean water around them through activities at the water laboratory post. Through this activity, they came to know various bioindicators in water to determine whether the water is suitable or not for consumption. The students became more aware of maintaining cleanliness and using water in moderation.
The last post, which is a post for 3R activities (reduce, reuse, recycle). The activities in this post were only attended by 5th, 6th grade elementary school students and junior high school students. They were invited to utilize used clothes into shopping bags that can be used for daily activities. The students seemed very enthusiastic about participating in this activity.
The activity, which was attended by around 312 participants, was highly appreciated by the teachers and students. They expressed their excitement about the presence of the Panda Mobile team. They think that this activity is very useful and can provide lessons as well as experiences about the environment in a very fun way. They hope that WWF-Indonesia's Panda Mobile team can visit again to deliver materials for the students of Ar-Ridha Al Salaam Islamic Green School.
