By: Dwina Sagita Nova (Volunteer Panda Mobile)
On Tuesday (12/12), WWF-Indonesia's Panda Mobile was invited to participate in an environmental education program with the theme "Animal Conservation" that took place at SMKN 8 Bekasi. The activity began with an introduction to the students about WWF-Indonesia and the six umbrella animals that are the focus of WWF-Indonesia's conservation efforts. In a presentation entitled "Biodiversity and Endangered Species", Panda Mobile volunteers explained and invited to protect animals in the easiest way, namely not littering. This is one of the efforts to protect the environment. The students were also invited to bring their own food and drink containers to reduce waste.
Next, the students were invited to watch a movie about animals and the environment. The movies screened were "Quartet at the Crossroad", "Cotton Ink", and "Palm Oil". At the end of each movie, the students received an explanation of the message contained in each movie. To energize the atmosphere, the volunteers asked questions to the students. Those who successfully answered received attractive prizes from Panda Mobile.
The activity with Panda Mobile then continued with getting to know water and its cycle by using Panda Mobile's water laboratory facilities. The students tested the water quality using litmus paper dipped in water samples. The litmus paper changes color, indicating that the water is alkaline, so it can be suspected that the water has been polluted by waste.
At the end of the series of activities, the students were divided into three groups to conduct discussions. Each group was required to make a mind map of the results of the activities that had been carried out. After discussing for 45 minutes, each group presented the results of their discussion.
The Panda Mobile event at SMKN 8 Bekasi was closed with a group photo. The volunteers advised the students to always protect the environment by not littering, especially not throwing garbage into the river and always reducing the use of disposable plastics.
