EQUIPPING FUTURE ENVIRONMENTAL COMMUNITY LEADERS WITH PANDA MOBILE
By: Pratama Aditya Haryanto (Panda Mobile Coordinator)
Sharp Greenerator has opened a new chapter in their community journey. On Monday (18/12), the community, which consists of selected students from several high schools in Bogor, held a chairman election. To get qualified and environmentally sound community leaders, the community led by PT Sharp Electronics Indonesia collaborates with several organizations to provide debriefing, including WWF-Indonesia, BOSF (Borneo Orangutan Survival Foundation), Trashi Community, and Terangi Foundation.< br />
Located at Cico Resort Bogor, debriefing activities for Sharp Greenerator chairman candidates were interesting. Resource persons from various environmental organizations provide sharing knowledge to the candidates. On this occasion, WWF-Indonesia represented by the Panda Mobile team, namely Sani Firmansyah (Supporter Center Officer), delivered material on renewable energy and the #BeliYangBaik campaign. Sani talked about the importance of preserving the environment. "Because all the little things we do are always related to nature, so we should preserve this nature for a better future," said Sani.
After the knowledge-sharing activity, the participants were given the opportunity to ask questions to the speakers. Many questions were asked by Sharp Greenerator members, one of which was about palm oil. "The palm oil sector is one of the sectors that must be reproduced because the money generated from palm oil is not small. Why should it be limited?" asked one member of Sharp Greenerator.
In turn, Tia from BOSF and Sani from WWF-Indonesia explained from the other side, why oil palm land should not be expanded and why converting forests into oil palm plantations can disrupt existing ecosystems. After the discussion session, the speakers were asked to participate in writing hopes for a sustainable earth on a piece of cardboard provided. Previously, Sharp Greenerator members had written their hopes and posted them on the wall. There are those who have hopes related to energy, some focus on animals, and some focus on waste and sanitation.
The series of Sharp Greenerator chairman elections then began. The candidates conveyed their vision and mission, campaigns, and plans to be carried out when they became chairman of the community of young environmentalists in front of speakers and other Sharp Greenerator members. After going through a long process, of the three candidates for chairman, Prima Yulina was elected as chairman of Sharp Greenerator 2018. The hope is that the new chairman can mobilize more young people who contribute more to environmental conservation.
