Not many people know the reasons why endangered animals must be protected. Through a movie about endangered animals, WWF-Indonesia's Panda Mobile tries to explain this. "The endangered animals in the movie are called umbrella species. Why? Because they have a wide range of range so that when we protect them, other animals and ecosystems that occupy the same area will also be protected. That's why the six animals are likened to umbrellas that protect their range," explained Mecca Verdiano, one of the Panda Mobile volunteers during a visit to SD FIP UMJ Labschool, Ciputat, on Wednesday (28/02) ago.
Apart from watching the movie, students in grades 1-3 also received an introduction to the life of orangutans through a fairy tale. The fairy tale tells the story of how irresponsible behavior, such as littering, can have a negative impact on the lives of endangered animals. Through fairy tales and movies, students are expected to become more familiar with endangered animals, especially those found in Indonesia so that their love for them will emerge. Thus, the spirit to preserve them can also emerge early on.
At the same time, students in grades 4-6 conducted activities using the Panda Mobile water education laboratory facility. They tested the quality of dirty and clean water using a microscope. In this way, they came to know the difference in microbial content between clean and dirty water. Hopefully, the students will start to be wise in using clean water. To enrich the information about water, the Panda Mobile team also provided an explanation of the water cycle on Earth and the acidity level of water.< br />
At the end of the activity, the students had the opportunity to try hydroponic activities using used plastic bottles. "Planting with hydroponics is very efficient. We can use tools that we can easily find. We can use used plastic bottles that are no longer used to plant with this hydroponic technique," explained Annisa, one of the Panda Mobile volunteers. The WWF-Indonesia Panda Mobile activity at SD FIP UMJ Labschool was welcomed by students and teachers with great enthusiasm. They followed the course of all activities until completion.
